Almost everyone gets headaches from time to time, but for some, these headaches can turn into migraines. Migraines are very intense headaches that can cause blurry vision, nausea or sensitivity to light and noises. Many factors can contribute to migraines such as genetics, stress, lack of food or not enough sleep. If left untreated, it can linger for hours to days. Fortunately, there are some simple, yet effective tricks that can be used to get rid of migraines. I have used these tricks in the past to get rid of my migraines.

Apply or Smell Lavender Oil

Most people use lavender oil to give their home a warm and pleasant smell. However, it can also be used relieve headaches and migraines. Lavender is known to reduce blood vessel inflammation. You can apply the oil externally or inhale its vapors by adding 2-4 drops of lavender oil for every 2-3 cups of boiling water. It is best used to treat migraines that are related to stress.

Move to a Dark Room

Many migraines are triggered by bright or flickering lights. You can solve this problem by pulling down the shades or turning off the lights. Moving to a dark room will calm your senses down and relieve your migraine. If you are unable to find a dark room, wearing sunglasses will help ease the migraine temporarily.

Apply a Cold Washcloth

Applying a cold compress on your forehead or neck will slow down the rush of blood to your head. All you need is a soft washcloth and some cold water. Simply wet the washcloth and place it over your forehead or on the back of your neck. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Remove the cloth and take a break for another 10-15 minutes. Apply the washcloth again and continue this process until your migraine goes away.
